Villanova 102 Syracuse 85: Quick recap

Syracuse Villanova Basketball

After Villanova went on a 12-2 run to start the game against Syracuse, it never had to look back as it knocked off the Orange for an easy 102-85 win.  The win was highlighted by the performance of senior Dante Cunningham who matched a career-high with 31 points.

Syracuse had a very difficult time scoring early, as sophomore Rick Jackson was the only Orange player to register a field goal until about five minutes left in the half.  They were able to overcome that and score 85 points, but that was sparked but a second half that saw Syracuse take almost exclusively three-point shots.

Foul trouble was also a theme as both teams had to deal with several of their players racking up early fouls.  By game’s end sophomore Antonio Pena had fouled out for the Wildcats while, Jackson and senior Kristof Ongenaet were forced to end their day early for Syracuse.

Aside from Cunningham, Villanova had four others in double-figures.  Sophomore Corey Stokes had 16 and sophomore Corey Fisher had 14, as both came off the bench.  Senior Shane Clark also had 14 points t0 go along with ten rebounds.  Junior Scottie Reynolds finished with ten points.

Next up for Villanova is Marquette on Tuesday.  The Golden Eagles are coming off a loss at South Florida on Friday.
