Pitt 76 UConn 68: Rapid Reaction

Pittsburgh Connecticut BasketballAny game involving the top five in the Big East is a must see, but this Pitt-UConn game was perhaps the most anticipated of the season. Luckily, unlike Pitt-Louisville or UConn-Louisville, we got a game that lived up to the hype this time.

The story of this game was the battle between Hasheem Thabeet and DeJuan Blair. It was a battle that Blair dominated from the beginning. Blair was able to do almost anything he wanted in the paint, even when Thabeet was on the floor. When Thabeet was out with foul trouble, Blair became even more unstoppable. He finished the night with 22 points and 23 rebounds. Thabeet had 5 points and 4 rebounds.

Despite Blair’s dominance, UConn still had a legit chance to win the game late. However, it was senior leader Levance Fields that put the game away. He nailed two consecutive 3-point shots with about three minutes remaining after not having made a single basket all day.

The win now opens the door again for the #1 spot in the Big East. However, with the way these two teams are playing, it would be a shock if either of them did not claim the top spot.

Luckily for us, these two teams meet again on Mar. 7. It will be the final regular season game for both teams, and it very well could determine who wins the Big East regular season crown.
