Quick recap: Villanova 95 Maryland 86

The Villanova offense came to Washington, D.C. ready to give Maryland its best shot, and after an impressive night from beyond the arc, the Wildcats prevailed 95-86.

The story of the game for the team was its 3-point shooting.  Villanova took an amazing 39 attempts from downtown, connecting on 16 of them. Corey Stokes was particularly effective, leading the team with five 3-pointers on 11 attempts.

While Stokes finished with 18, it was Scottie Reynolds who once again led the way for the Wildcats.  Playing perhaps his best game all season, Reynolds 25 points and 8 assists.  His backcourt mate Corey Fisher chipped in a season-high 20 points of his own.

The offense helped bail out a defense that did not look sharp all night.  Villanova allowed Maryland to shoot 52.8 percent from the field and surrendered 48 points in the second half.

Nevertheless, Villanova improved to 8-0 and will likely maintain its No. 3 ranking in tomorrow’s poll.  Next up for the team is a date with St. Joseph’s on Wednesday at The Palestra.
