Quick recap: Temple 75 Villanova 65

One game after avoiding upset against St. Joseph’s, Villanova fell to another Big Five rival, suffering its first loss of the season.  The Owls played arguably their best game of the season shooting 51 percent from the field and 44 percent from beyond the arc.

Much of that success came from sophomore guard Juan Fernandez, who scored a career-high 33 points, including shooting 7-for-11 from 3-point range.  Senior guard Ryan Brooks finished with 20 points, as well.

The Wildcats were handled by the Owls in the second half, as they were outscored 44-28.  Senior guard Scottie Reynolds had another strong performance in the defeat, scoring 23 points.

Perhaps the biggest problem for Villanova was their inability go get to the free throw line.  The Wildcats only received 12 attempts and made 9 of them.

Coincidentally enough, of their last five losses this is the third one that has come on the 13th of the month.

Villanova will now be off until Saturday when they travel to the Izod Center to play Fordham.  It will be the first game that senior guard Reggie Redding is eligible for.
